Hall Geoff

Geoffrey D. Hall

Geoffrey Hall enters the Chelmsford High School Alumni Association Hall of Fame after a long and distinguished career as an educator, public servant and community activist. He has impacted and inspired countless students and individuals with his dedication, enthusiasm and passion, both inside and outside the classroom.

Geoff was a teacher in the Chelmsford Public Schools from 1970-2008, teaching at both the Parker and McCarthy Middle Schools before finishing his career at Chelmsford High School from 1995-2008. He was involved and active, teaching a variety of social studies courses, coaching freshmen wrestling, and assuming a leadership role in the Chelmsford Federation of Teachers. Geoff is best remembered for his high school political, civic, and law classes. He encouraged his students to become civic-minded and active in the world around them. “Geoff had the inate ability to connect with his students, build a personal relationship with them, tap their interests and passions, and inspire them to work toward realizing their potential,” states a former student and eventual teaching colleague of Geoff.

Whether representing Westford (his hometown) as a Selectman, Housing Authority member or State Representative from 2nd Middlesex District (which also included three precincts from Chelmsford,) Geoff passionately helped constituents in both communities. His involvement on the Massachusetts State Legislature's Education Committee allowed him to pursue his passion of introducing and supporting legislation that helped both students and educators succeed.

Geoff's civic and community involvement in Westford is impressive, lengthy and well-documented. This longtime Little League baseball coach was honored by the naming of the “Geoffrey Hall Field.”  He is an active supporter of the Westford Historical Society, a past president and current member of the Westford Academy board of Trustees and Alumni Association, and a member of the Westford Academy Alumni Hall of Fame. Geoff is always willing to help, often leading and organizing those around him.

Geoff has been a positive role model and a tireless advocate for many within our educational community. As another of his colleagues states, “Geoff has always been ready to put forth his full commitment. He was a tremendous teacher and mentor to so many over his career.”

The Chelmsford Independent, in its editorial on November 6, 2003, wrote that “Chelmsford is lucky to have the representation of Geoffrey Hall” and “as a social studies teacher at Chelmsford High School he is committed to education and youth. He knows the issues from inside the school hallways.”

Geoff has not “slowed down” and continues to be an active participant and positive influence in many community service projects throughout his hometown and beyond.
