NANCY HOUGH FABBRI
MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Established 2016
Awarding Criteria: Will be awarded to a deserving senior who will be attending the University of Massachusetts at Lowell.
Raised in North Chelmsford, MA, Nancy Hough Fabbri attended Chelmsford Public Schools and graduated from CHS with the class of 1966. Pursuing her desire to teach, she received an undergraduate degree from Lowell State College, now recognized as UMass Lowell.
In the years that followed, Nancy remained in Chelmsford where she and her husband, Steve, raised their family that included daughter, Lisa, and son, Bruce.
Most of Nancy’s years as a teacher were spent at the Chelmsford middle schools where she shared her love of literature with her 7th and 8th grade students. Her passion for books and reading was exceeded only by her talent and appreciation for the art and craft of writing, which she instilled in so many of her students. She loved going to school each day where the rapport between her and her students was evident. Her example, positive influence, and love of English, as well as life in general, comprised a gift that she freely shared with those who had the chance to be a part of her classes. One of Nancy’s favorite school activities, the annual class trip to Quebec City, provided an opportunity for her inspiration to spread to those beyond her own classroom.
Nancy had many interests including playing tennis, quilting, and travelling, all of which added to her broad circle of friends. It was those same friends, along with her family, who stood by and supported her in her lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer, which she lost in 2013.
The legacy Nancy leaves behind is embodied largely in all those whose lives she touched, especially her students who will carry her influence forward. It is because of her love for students and the educational process that this scholarship has been created to help a deserving student who intends to further his or her education at the University of Massachusetts at Lowell.
