ROBERT F. BROWN FAMILY
SCHOLARSHIP
Established 2009
Awarding Criteria: Will be awarded to a deserving senior who has earned varsity letters in at least two sports and has demonstrated an uncommon work ethic and leadership ability in those two sports.
The spirit of the Brown Family Scholarship was inspired by the life of the patriarch of the Brown family, Robert F. Brown, known to all as Bobby.
Bobby Brown was a long-time citizen of Chelmsford who, with his wife of 43 years, Heather, raised a family of four ~ Robert, Jr., James, Susan, and Sandra. At the time of his passing, there were 11 grandchildren and one on the way. This large and loving family made and celebrates many happy memories.
One thing that makes the Brown family story so special is that Bobby Brown was a 1959 graduate of Billerica High School. He was inducted into the Billerica High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He played football, basketball and baseball and was captain of all three teams his senior year. It was a source of pride that his football team did actually beat Chelmsford. However, the pride that he took in his athletic efforts as a young man was indicative of a strength of character that led him to encourage his own children and grandchildren, students in the Chelmsford school system, to do their best in his adopted home town.
Mr. Brown was owner and operator of a concrete forms business that was instrumental in supporting the construction of many homes and businesses in Chelmsford. While he worked very hard, he was also known to enjoy his leisure time as well. He loved the fun of gathered friends and family, as well as camping, golf and captaining his boat.
The Brown Family wants to carry on the spirit of this very special man by creating this scholarship that will provide support for young graduates of Chelmsford High School as they seek to fulfill their dreams. It is presented to a deserving senior who has earned varsity letters in at least two sports and has demonstrated an uncommon work ethic and leadership in those two sports.
