Arnold “Arnie” Holtberg, a member of CHS Class of 1966, has been called the best scholar athlete to have ever attended Chelmsford High School. He was a standout, all scholastic athlete in three sports—football, basketball, and baseball. All three teams on which Arnie played won at least one state championship. After graduating in 1966, Arnie attended Princeton University. He continued as an outstanding scholar athlete, starring on the baseball team for four years. During his freshman year, Arnie was selected as the captain of the freshman team and went on to earn three varsity letters, along with numerous NCAA and Ivy League awards.
Arnie was a true scholar athlete. He was a member of the CHS National Honor Society chapter and graduated in 1970 cum laude from Princeton with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology.
Following graduation, Arnie was drafted by the New York Yankees and briefly played in their minor league organization. However, Arnie was and is a true scholar athlete. He left the professional aspect of sports and went on to have an outstanding career as an educator and high school coach.
