Dixon G Jr

George R. Dixon, Jr.

Class of 1964

George R. Dixon, Jr., the son of George, Sr. and A. Winifred Dixon has always taken great pride in being a son of Chelmsford High School. That pride has not diminshed in the least over the past half century. George was a well-rounded student athlete at CHS. He immersed himself in football, basketball, baseball, and golf. George earned ten varsity letters. He was also active in extracurricular activities such as Homeroom Representative for Student Council, member of the Key Club, and a Prom Committee member.

Quite simply, George's goal was to savor each and every moment of his high school experience. He loved those years and the friendships he made that continue to the day. He still cherishes memories of has dad watching him play and sharing a malt with his girlfriend and now wife Teri at Skip's.

George attended Lowell Technological Institute (now UMass  Lowell,) where he continued to play sports and remained very active in university life. He received a B. S. Degree in Business Administration. In his early postgraduate years he worked in the insurance business and also in banking. George then transitioned into real estate development.

George's greatest accomplishments however have been in service to his community. He served for a number of years as the director of the Greater Lowell Boys and Girls Club. George took the budget from $450,000 to $1.2 million annually. He also served on the Major Fundraising Committee and was recognized for nine years of outstanding leadership and contributions to the Club.

George was the director of the Paul Center from 2002 to 2008 and continues to serve as Vice President to the present day. Parents of children who have been served by the Paul Center are constantly amazed by what George has helped to accomplish without ever seeking accolades. He just wants to help the children.

In the spring of 2006 George became the guiding force in the effort to properly honor the four young Chelmsford men who served and were killed in Vietnam. George has a deep appreciation for our veterans and their families. The Committee collected over $25,000, all from private donations, and dedicated the Chelmsford Vietnam Veterans' Memorial in November of 2006.

George was elected a Town Meeting Representative in 2002 and continues to serve to the present day. He has served as a member of the Board of Selectman since 2009. He was voted chairman for two consecutive years, which is highly unusual, and is a credit to the respect shown him by his peers on the Board. During his time on the Board he has served as a liaison to the LRTA, Water Department, Capital Planning Committee, School Department, Board of Health, Sewer Commission and others.

George has put Chelmsford first for his entire life. He chose to stay in town to raise his family because he loves and recognizes Chelmsford for the wonderful town that it is. He has always been and continues to be thoroughly committed to making Chelmsford the best it can be for everyone.
