NORMAN S. SMITH

MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Established 1999

Awarding Criteria: Will be awarded to a deserving senior who will be attending Bentley University and to a deserving senior who will be attending St. Anselm College

These scholarships are presented in the memory of Norman S. Smith, a member of the Chelmsford High School Class of 1941, by his family. They are presented annually to two members of the graduating class who plan to further their education at Bentley College and St. Anselm College.

Mr. Smith was a life long resident of Chelmsford, growing up in East Chelmsford along with his two younger brothers. Upon his graduation from CHS, he enlisted in the United States Navy and became a naval aviator and flew the Privateer. Norman served with distinction in the Pacific Theatre of Operations during World War II. He and his plane were lost over Singapore in June 1945. Following the war Chelmsford named a road in East Chelmsford the “Norman Stanley Smith, Jr. Street” posthumously in honor of his distinguished service to his country.

Recipients of this scholarship are encouraged to apply for the Thomas F. Sullivan Scholarship at St. Anselm College or the Chuck Sakini Scholarship at Bentley College.
