Dennis F. King, II

Class of 1983

Dennis graduated as one of the top 20 students in a class of over 650. He was a member of both the football and wrestling teams, serving as the team captain in wrestling in his senior season. As a wrestler, he won league, sectional, state, and New England titles in his senior year.

Following high school, Dennis went on to Boston University where he also wrestled for four years and earned his bachelor’s degree in biology. Upon graduating, Dennis decided to go into teaching, attending the University of Lowell where he earned his master’s degree in education. It was during that time that Dennis returned to Chelmsford High to do his student teaching and begin his career as a high school wrestling coach.

After earning his master’s degree, Dennis took a job at Methuen High School as a biology teacher, a position he held for 12 years. In 1991, he was appointed head wrestling coach of a newly created program at Central Catholic High School in Lawrence. Over the next 24 (and counting) seasons he led the Central Catholic team to numerous state, sectional, and league titles. He has also coached multiple wrestlers to individual New England, State, and Sectional titles. In 2014, he was inducted into the Massachusetts Wrestling Hall of Fame and, in 2015, into the Central Catholic Athletic Hall of Fame.

In 2001, Dennis moved from his position as a teacher at Methuen High School to a similar teaching position at Central Catholic. In 2002, he took on the role of Science/PE/Health department chair. As department chair, Dennis directed several initiatives including developing a new lab science program across the curriculum and establishing a scholarship, given through the science department that provides tuition assistance to underclassmen at Central Catholic. In addition to his teaching role, Dennis also co-founded the field hockey program at Central Catholic in 2007, serving as an assistant coach for the first four years of the program’s existence.

The resolve, passion, and determination that he exhibits as he strives to develop motivated, confident, and successful students and wrestlers are apparent in his home life as well. Dennis is an amazing family man. His passion for life, his deep love for, and unsurpassed commitment to his family, are extraordinary.

As his children grew up Dennis took an active role in many of their activities. He has served as a coach/volunteer for Chelmsford Girls softball, Chelmsford youth Soccer, Chelmsford youth wrestling and Chelmsford youth field hockey. He was also very active in multiple fund raising activities for local charities such as Boston Children’s Hospital, The Paul Center, and the Anne Sullivan Early Intervention Program, just to name a few.
